How We “Do” Church
- A Cultural Shift
Churches in America were originally designed to fit with the culture. America was an agrarian society. The time for church that fit that culture, was 11:00 am on Sunday morning. An agrarian society dictated that morning chores would be done prior to leaving for church. When church was over it was time for lunch and then evening chores. Sunday night church came about as gas lights and electric lights began to appear in the cities. Visionary ministers noticed the cultural shift and started evening services to meet the needs of the changing culture. The culture of North America has changed. The United States has become a culture of the “recreational weekend.” From RV’s and weekend escapes, to youth and adult sports, to gardeners and “Do-it-Yourselfers,” to car and motorcycles enthusiasts, more and more Americans live their lives for the weekend. We can easily affirm this in everything from advertising to education.
- For Revolution Church Weekends Belong to the Kingdom
This church plant is an effort to recognize the significance of our growing weekend culture and to be intentional about engaging the individuals of that culture. Weekends are sacred leisure and recreation time in North American. We encourage our partners to give their weekends to the Kingdom of God. Attendance at worship events and growth groups are necessary to foster a believer’s growth and maturity, but attendance should not interfere with building relationships with the disconnected. We encourage our partners to give their leisure time, crafting, studying, scrapbooking, reading, camping, hiking, biking, sailing, fishing, golfing, gardening, or even spelunking to God and ask him to use their weekend life to make a difference in the Kingdom. Our desire is that church on Sunday night become a time of joining together in celebration of what God has done with our investment and preparing for the ministry that God will lay at our fingertips during the next week.
- Worship Events Anytime
Our plan is for a church that meets on Sunday nights, offering everything that a conventional Sunday morning church would offer. Optional services would be any time other than the culturally significant time of Friday night through Sunday afternoon.
- A Place for Church
The disconnected world needs safe, neutral places to explore reconnection to God. They need places they can frequent on their own terms. And they need places that offer meaningful relationships and needed support for critical life issues. Our plan is to do church in neutral, safe places that the public will feel is common ground. Where we do church should be as much their space as our space.

Tabu' is located at 2111 North St. at the corner of North and College Streets in Nacogdoches. We are excited that God has provided us a very public and open venue for our church.
